Private jeep day trip in Cozumel with custom stops and local flavor

You’ll ride in a cool Jeep with your own local guide through Cozumel’s quieter corners—visit Mayan ruins, taste fresh tacos downtown, and wander through the bee sanctuary if you’re curious. The day is yours to shape: take it slow or pack in sights, with bottled water and entry fees included. You’ll leave feeling like you saw more than just postcards.

Step-by-step itinerary

Customizable private Jeep tour in Cozumel

  • Create personalized itinerary with guide
  • Travel in modern Jeep Renegade 2022
  • Visit popular attractions or hidden gems
  • Explore East side, Downtown, or beaches
  • Discover Mayan ruins and eco parks

The Experience

“You sure you want to try the bee sanctuary?” our guide, Javier, asked, grinning as he handed me a bottle of cold water. I’d barely finished laughing at my attempt to pronounce “melipona” when we rolled down the window and the air changed—hotter, but sweet somehow. The Jeep’s A/C was a relief after walking around San Gervasio ruins (the iguanas there don’t care about tourists at all), but honestly, I liked how Javier kept pointing out tiny things—like the way old fishermen wave from their bikes or how the market smells different after rain. We didn’t really have a plan; just a rough idea of what we wanted, and he filled in the rest.

I didn’t expect to like driving along the east side so much—there’s this wildness to it, waves crashing and not much between you and Cuba except blue. We stopped for coconut water at a shack where two kids were playing marbles in the dust. It wasn’t some big tourist spot; just felt like real Cozumel. Lunch was whatever we felt like—Javier suggested tacos near downtown (“not too spicy unless you want to sweat,” he warned). I still think about that salsa.

The best part? No schedule chasing. If we wanted more time watching bees or less time at Chankanaab Beach Park, it was up to us. Even when we got caught behind a slow-moving scooter parade (apparently Tuesdays?), nobody stressed. There’s something about having your own guide who knows everyone—makes you feel like you belong for a day. Five hours went fast, but it didn’t feel rushed at all…kind of wish I’d tried more Spanish jokes though.

What’s included

Your day includes five hours exploring Cozumel by air-conditioned Jeep Renegade 2022 with a friendly local guide who doubles as your driver, bottled water throughout, personalized route planning based on your preferences or spontaneous ideas, and admission to Tierra Maya – Sanctuary of Living Mayan Traditions before heading back whenever you’re ready.
