Watch the reef through glass, then swim inside it

Snorkel Cozumel aboard a transparent boat with a licensed guide in English or Spanish, starting from the pier and visiting Punta Norte, Punta Sur and Legos Reef. The boat's glass floor lets you see sunken ships and fish before you enter the water; a 15-minute snorkeling session at Legos Reef follows. Lifejackets, snorkel gear and one drink are included; the tour runs 90 minutes total. Children from age 1 are welcome; pregnant travelers and those with cardiovascular concerns should not participate.

Step-by-step itinerary

Transparent boat tour and snorkeling

  • Board transparent boat
  • Sail to northern shores
  • View sunken ships through glass
  • Sail to southern Legos Reef
  • Snorkel for 15 minutes

The Experience

Punta Norte is where the transparent boat shows you what's below without getting wet. The glass hull lets you watch sunken ships and schools of fish move through the water while you stand dry on deck—a way to see the reef that most snorkeling tours skip. The boat then heads south to Punta Sur, a marine sanctuary where coral and fish are denser and more colorful than the northern side.

At Legos Reef, you trade the glass floor for the water itself. The 15-minute snorkeling session puts you face-to-face with the same marine life you watched from above. Lifejackets and snorkel gear are provided, and a licensed guide stays with the group. The whole outing takes 90 minutes from start to finish, which means you're back on land by early afternoon.

One drink per person—water or a soft drink—is included. Public transportation reaches the pier; if you're staying away from the waterfront, ask about pickup options when you book. Infants must sit on an adult's lap, and children need to be at least 1 year old to join. Pregnant travelers and anyone with heart or cardiovascular issues should sit this one out for safety reasons.

Is this one for you?If you're staying without a car or away from the waterfront, the pier is reachable by public transportation nearby—the tour starts and ends at the same dock, so you don't need to arrange your own way to the boat. The transparent boat means you see the reef twice: once from above the water and once from inside it, which is what sets this tour apart from standard snorkeling trips that skip the glass-floor viewing.

Top questions

What exactly is a transparent boat and how does it work for snorkeling?

A transparent boat has a glass floor built into the hull so you can see the reef and fish below while standing or sitting inside the boat, staying dry and comfortable. You watch the underwater world pass beneath your feet before you ever enter the water for the snorkeling portion.

What will I see at Punta Norte and Punta Sur?

Punta Norte is where sunken ships sit on the seafloor, visible through the glass with fish swimming around them. Punta Sur is a vibrant coral reef with denser marine life and more colorful fish and corals than the northern site.

How long is the actual snorkeling time in the water?

The snorkeling session at Legos Reef lasts 15 minutes. The full tour, including the transparent boat portion and travel between sites, takes 90 minutes total.

Is snorkel equipment provided, or do I need to bring my own?

Snorkel gear is included with the tour—mask, fins and snorkel are provided. Lifejackets are also included for anyone who wants one while snorkeling.

Can I bring my young child on this tour?

Children are welcome from age 1 onward. Infants under 1 year old cannot participate, and babies under 12 months must sit on an adult's lap if they were somehow allowed. Pregnant travelers and those with cardiovascular health concerns should not join for safety reasons.

What's included in the price, and what costs extra?

The tour includes lifejackets, snorkel equipment, a licensed guide in English or Spanish, and one complimentary drink per person (water or soft drink). Dock tax and service fees of 220 MXN per person are not included and are paid separately.
