You'll have roughly 45 minutes there before the boat heads back to shore.

The day starts with Colombia Reef, where you'll get your snorkel gear fitted and your first look at what's below. Then it's on to Palancar Reef, the main event: coral formations, tropical fish, sea turtles and rays in clear water. After Palancar comes the 20-minute ride to El Cielo. The whole outing runs about four hours. Your guide speaks English and Spanish, and the boat carries a maximum of 25 people, so it stays manageable even when it's full.

Snacks and drinks are included, and you'll get a beach picnic at El Cielo in a secluded area with a view. Life vests are mandatory for the snorkeling itself—no exceptions—and you'll need to be able to climb a ladder to get back into the boat.
