Glide over reefs, dive beneath them, drink in between

A shore excursion in Cozumel combining a glass-bottom boat ride and snorkeling in one 90-minute outing, designed for cruise passengers with limited port time. You board a transparent boat to watch coral reefs and tropical fish from above, then enter the water to swim among the same marine life up close, with two drinks and snorkeling gear included. The guide speaks English and Spanish, and the tour departs and returns to the cruise dock area.

Step-by-step itinerary

Clear boat ride and snorkeling adventure

  • Board transparent boat in Cozumel
  • View coral reefs and marine life
  • Learn about Cozumel's history and landmarks
  • Snorkel in world-renowned spots
  • Return to boat and enjoy two drinks
  • Relax and cruise back

The Experience

You have a few hours in port and no time to arrange a separate boat and dive shop. The clear boat does the work: you board at the dock, and the transparent hull lets you see vibrant coral formations, tropical fish and shipwrecks as the boat glides over Cozumel's turquoise water. The guide narrates in English or Spanish, pointing out the island's landmarks and the marine life passing beneath you. This first part is pure observation—no swimming, no gear, just sitting and watching the Caribbean unfold below the waterline.

Then the boat stops at one of Cozumel's snorkeling sites, and you enter the water with mask, fins and snorkel provided. The same reefs you watched from above are now around you—colorful fish, coral formations, the full underwater landscape. After you've swum and explored, you climb back aboard, towel off and settle in with one of two included drinks (beer or water) while the boat cruises back to the dock. The whole outing runs 90 minutes, timed to fit between ship departures.

Top questions

Can I do this tour if I'm not a strong swimmer?

Snorkeling in Cozumel doesn't require swimming ability—you stay on the surface with the mask and snorkel, and the reef is shallow enough that you can stand if needed. The guide and crew watch the group, and the tour is suitable for all fitness levels.

What's the difference between watching from the clear boat and snorkeling the same reef?

The clear boat shows you the reef structure, fish and shipwrecks from above the water without getting wet, while snorkeling puts you in the water alongside the marine life. Most tours do both so you see the same ecosystem two different ways.

Do I need to bring my own snorkel gear?

No—snorkeling equipment including mask, fins and snorkel is provided and included in the tour price.

How long is the actual snorkeling time in the water?

The tour runs 90 minutes total, with time split between the clear boat ride and the snorkeling stop. The exact snorkeling duration depends on sea conditions and the group, but you'll have a meaningful time in the water at one of Cozumel's best reefs.

Does this tour leave from the cruise ship dock?

The tour departs and returns to the dock area in Cozumel, designed for cruise passengers. You'll need to arrange your own transportation from the ship terminal to the boat departure point; public transportation options are available nearby.

What language does the guide speak?

The guide speaks both English and Spanish, so commentary and instructions are delivered in both languages throughout the tour.
