Discover Scuba Diving in Cozumel is a single-dive introduction for beginners with no prior experience—you meet your PADI instructor at Tikila Beach Bar, practice safety skills in shallow water, then dive to 20 feet for 40–50 minutes. Children from age 10 are welcome; guides speak English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. Transportation to the beach is not included.

The Experience

You arrive at Tikila Beach Bar where your scuba instructor meets you. Before the water, you review the gear—tank, regulator, buoyancy control—and go through the basic skills you'll need: how to clear your mask, how to breathe calmly, how to signal your instructor. It takes time but nothing is rushed; the whole session is built around getting you comfortable with the equipment and the sensation of breathing underwater.

The practice happens in 3–4 feet of water, shallow enough that you can stand and touch bottom if you need to. Your instructor stays with you the whole time, watching how you handle the gear and the breathing, making sure each skill clicks before you move to the next one. Once you're ready, you move into deeper water—up to 20 feet—for the actual dive. This is where you get to explore, not just practice: you're underwater, moving through the reef or the sandy bottom, seeing what's there. The dive itself runs 40–50 minutes.

The whole experience takes about two hours from arrival to the moment you're back on the beach. You don't need to be fit or athletic—the water holds your weight—but you do need to be in reasonable health and comfortable with the idea of breathing from a tank. Kids as young as 10 can do this.
