The Experience

I’ll admit, I thought renting a private yacht in Cancun would feel a bit over the top, but honestly? The second we stepped barefoot onto that Sea Ray 46ft — sun already warming the deck — it was just easy. Our captain, José, greeted us with this big grin and handed out cold bottles of water (I’d forgotten how good plain water tastes when you’re salty from the air). We set off from the marina, engine humming low, and I kept thinking how blue everything looked — like someone turned up the saturation on real life.

We picked the four-hour option so we could make it all the way to Isla Mujeres. On the way, José pointed out where locals go fishing (“not here — too many tourists,” he laughed) and told us about his favorite taco stand back in town. There was music playing somewhere below deck, but mostly you just heard wind and little splashes against the hull. When we anchored near Playa Norte, I jumped into the water before anyone else — not graceful, but who cares.
