You’ll drop into Cabo San Lucas’ wild blue alongside local guides—swimming with sea lions near Neptune’s Finger, drifting over surreal sand falls, and spotting turtles or nurse sharks if you’re lucky. Between dives there’s time for snacks and laughter on deck before heading back toward the Arch—still buzzing from everything you saw underwater.
“You’ll hear them before you see them,” our dive guide Marco grinned as we zipped out from Cabo San Lucas marina, the boat humming under us. He meant the sea lions, but honestly I was still trying to get my wetsuit zipped all the way — nerves and excitement kind of tangled together. The sun was already bright, but there was this salty coolness in the air that felt different from beaches back home. Marco handed me my mask, checked my tank (twice), and then we just waited for that first backward roll.
The water here is this deep blue-green — not quite clear, but alive. When we dropped down near Neptune’s Finger, I could hear those sea lions barking somewhere above, echoing through the water. There were schools of yellow snapper flickering past, and then these weird currents of colder water brushing my arms. At one point Marco pointed out a nurse shark tucked under a ledge; I almost missed it because I was staring at this wall of tiny silver fish moving like one big creature. We drifted over the sand falls — it actually looked like underwater snow sliding off a cliff. Kind of hypnotic. My ears popped more than once.
Between dives we snacked on sweet fruit and something salty (I never caught what it was). The crew joked around in Spanish — I caught maybe half of it, but laughter’s easy to understand anywhere. Second dive was closer to Land’s End itself; there’s an old shipwreck down there but honestly I got distracted by a turtle gliding past like he owned the place. Sometimes you just have to let go of what you planned to look for.
I didn’t expect to feel so small down there — in a good way. Even now when I close my eyes I can picture that canyon dropping away beneath me, all that space and movement and sound muffled by water. If you’re thinking about doing a 2-tank dive at Land’s End from Cabo San Lucas… well, just go for it.
