The experience
The day starts with a van pickup from your hotel or a nearby meeting point, then heads to the archaeological site of Tulum. You'll have 1.5 hours to walk the ruins perched above the turquoise Caribbean, explore the pyramids and relax on the beach. A guide leads the site visit and explains the history. Afterward you eat fried tacos, rice, beans and salsas: a traditional Mayan dish served at the park.
After lunch, you ride your own ATV or share one through jungle trails toward a closed cenote. The cenote is a natural swimming pool deep in the jungle, fed by the underground river system and ringed with stalactites and stalagmites that are roughly 1,000 years old. A guide leads you through the cavern tunnels for a swim. If you want more adrenaline, you can rappel into the cenote or skip it and just swim. Either way, you then move to the zip-line circuit: five lines total, one of them 1 km long. The longest in the area. After that, the van brings you back to your hotel.
You choose between a single ATV (you ride alone) or a double ATV (you ride with a passenger). The minimum age to operate an ATV is 16 years old. Children under that age can ride as passengers on a double machine if accompanied by an adult. Life vests, helmets and goggles are provided, as is all rappel equipment. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French depending on the option you book.
