Swim with Wild Dolphins in Mauritius: 2-Hour Excursion
Black River and Tamarin Bay: where you enter the water with dolphins
A 2-hour dolphin swim in Mauritius operates year-round from Black River or Tamarin Bay with a professional guide, snorkeling equipment and mineral water. Your guide enters the water with you and stays throughout. Groups stay under eight people, and children from age 2 are welcome with an adult.
Step-by-step itinerary
Dolphin encounter and snorkeling
- Meet accredited guide at embarkation point
- Receive explanation from guide
- Swim with wild dolphins
- Use snorkeling and safety equipment
- Enjoy mineral water during trip
The Experience
The boat leaves at 7 a.m. and returns by 9 a.m., which is when dolphins are most active in these waters. An accredited guide meets you at the embarkation point and briefs you on what to expect before you board. Once on the water, the guide stays with your group the entire time, explaining the dolphins' behavior and helping you position yourself for the encounter. Snorkeling equipment—mask, fins and snorkel—comes with you; mineral water is provided throughout.
When dolphins appear, you enter the water as a group. The guide is in the water with you, managing the pace and making sure everyone stays safe and together. This is not a guarantee of sightings—dolphins are wild and move freely—but the timing and location are chosen because encounters happen regularly here. The small group size (maximum eight people per booking) means you are not competing with dozens of others for space or the dolphins' attention.
All taxes, fees and handling charges are included in the price. You do not arrange your own transport to the embarkation point; the meeting happens there. Bring a towel, sunscreen and a change of clothes. The guide speaks English or French depending on your preference.

Can children swim with the dolphins on this excursion?
Children from age 2 can join, provided they are accompanied by an adult in the water. An adult must be present at all times during the swim.
What happens if we don't see dolphins during the two hours?
Dolphins are wild animals and sightings are not guaranteed, though encounters are frequent at these times and locations. The guide will position the boat and group to maximize the chance of meeting them, but the outcome depends on where the dolphins choose to be.
Is hotel pickup included, or do I meet the boat at the embarkation point?
You meet the guide at the embarkation point in Black River or Tamarin Bay. Hotel pickup is not included, so you'll need to arrange your own transport to the meeting location.
What snorkeling experience do I need?
The excursion suits all fitness levels. The guide provides snorkeling equipment and stays with you in the water, so prior experience is not required. Children and adults of any ability can participate.
How many people go on each dolphin swim?
Groups are kept to a maximum of eight people per booking, which keeps the experience manageable and gives everyone space in the water.
What's included in the price?
The price covers all taxes and fees, the professional guide, snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, snorkel) and mineral water. You bring your own towel and sunscreen.
