Start in the lagoon, finish on the reef

A two-stage scuba diving experience in Mauritius that pairs a lagoon baptism with a sea dive on a tropical reef 6–12 meters deep, designed for beginners without certification. PADI instruction guides you through both stages, starting in calm shallow water near Belle Mare on the east coast, then moving to an authentic dive site 10 minutes by boat away. The whole outing runs three hours and includes all equipment, boat transfers and continuous supervision.

The Experience

The dive starts in the lagoon—shallow, calm water where a PADI instructor walks you through the fundamentals of breathing underwater and moving in the gear. This is not a classroom; you are already in the water, already diving, learning the basics in an environment built for exactly this. Once you are comfortable, the boat takes you 10 minutes out to the reef site, where the water deepens to 6–12 meters and the marine life changes. Tropical species move through the water around you in their actual habitat, not in a tank or a video.

The whole sequence takes three hours. Equipment—wetsuit, tank, regulator, mask, fins—is provided and fitted before you enter the water. A PADI instructor or dive master stays with you the entire time, watching your breathing and your movements, adjusting the pace to what you need. The boat picks you up from Belle Mare on the east coast and brings you back the same way, so the only logistics you arrange is showing up.

This is built for people who have never dived before. No certification required. Children from age 10 can join. The guides speak English, Italian, French or German, so language is not a barrier to the instruction or to understanding what you are seeing underwater.

What’s included

  • Complete diving equipment (wetsuit, tank, regulator, mask, fins).
  • theoretical briefing and safety instruction.
  • lagoon baptism in shallow water.

Top questions

What's the difference between the lagoon dive and the sea dive on this activity?

The lagoon dive happens in shallow, calm water where you learn the basics of breathing and moving in scuba gear. The sea dive follows immediately after, taking you 10 minutes by boat to a reef site 6–12 meters deep, where you see tropical marine species in their natural habitat and practice what you just learned in a real dive environment.

Do I need scuba certification to book this diving activity in Mauritius?

No certification is required. This diving experience is designed for beginners, and the PADI instructor teaches you everything you need to know before and during both the lagoon and sea portions of the dive.

How long does the whole diving experience take?

The complete activity runs three hours, including the lagoon baptism, the boat ride to the sea dive site, the reef dive itself, and the return to Belle Mare.

What equipment is included, and do I need to bring my own gear?

All diving equipment is provided: wetsuit, tank, regulator, mask and fins are fitted and ready before you enter the water. You bring nothing except yourself and a swimsuit underneath.

Where does the diving happen, and how do I get there?

The dive center is located in Belle Mare on the east coast of Mauritius. The lagoon baptism starts there, and the boat transfers you to the sea dive site 10 minutes away and back again—both transfers are included.

Can children join this diving activity?

Children are welcome from age 10 onward. The PADI instructor adjusts the pace and depth to suit younger divers, and the calm lagoon start makes it accessible for first-time young divers.
