The experience

You operate a 570cc quad bike yourself (either solo or with a passenger riding behind you) following an experienced tour leader who drives a separate bike ahead. The morning starts with hotel pickup from mainland Malta and a private boat crossing to Gozo's Mġarr Harbour, where you'll receive a safety briefing and helmet fitting before setting out. The route traces Gozo's raw coastline and interior, hitting landmarks like Ta' Ċenċ Cliffs on the southwestern shore, where the Mediterranean opens below sheer rock faces, and Xlendi, a small bay ringed by picturesque cliffs. You'll ride through Għasri Valley's steep terrain and past Xwejni Salt Pans: a chequerboard of shallow pools hewn into the northern coast where salt farmers still harvest by hand during the warmer months.

Dwejra Bay sits on the western side, famous for its Inland Sea: a sheltered lagoon connected to open water through a 65-meter natural tunnel carved into the rock. A separate boat trip through the tunnel is available for a small fee on location. The ride also passes the Basilica of Ta' Pinu, a 16th-century shrine where walls are covered in letters and crutches left by people who believe they received miracles, and Qbajjar Bay Beach near Żebbuġ, a hidden cove with clear water backed by rugged cliffs. You'll stop for a packed lunch (water included) during the day.

At the end of the quad riding, weather and sea conditions permitting, you board one of the operator's private boats reserved for their clients and cruise around Comino. The boat passes the Blue Lagoon (famous for its cyan water and surrounded by cliffs), and the Crystal Lagoon, a sheltered turquoise basin ringed by imposing rock faces. During high season (April to October), a swim stop at one of these lagoons is included. Bring swimwear. The route also passes the Santa Maria Caves, a series of sea caves with clear water and natural formations. Return to Gozo by private boat, then transfer back to your mainland hotel. The whole day runs 7 to 8 hours from pickup to drop-off.

Is this one for you?Choose the single quad option if you want full control of the bike and the freedom to set your own pace within the group. Pick the shared option if you prefer to ride as a passenger and let someone else handle the steering while you take in the scenery and cliffs. The tour follows a fixed route led by an experienced guide, so the pace and stops are set. This structure is what fits all the major landmarks and the Comino cruise into a single day.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

Can I ride a quad bike solo, or do I need a passenger?

You can ride solo on a single quad bike, or you can choose the shared option and ride with a passenger sitting behind you on the same bike. The two-seater quad bikes accommodate either setup, and you choose which option suits you at checkout.

Is the swim stop at the Blue Lagoon guaranteed?

A swim stop at one of Comino's lagoons (either the Blue Lagoon or another sheltered bay) is included during high season, usually April to October. The stop is always subject to weather and sea conditions. If conditions prevent a Comino stop, the swim will be at a bay in Gozo instead. Bring swimwear if you plan to swim.

What happens if the weather is too rough for the boat crossing to Gozo?

If weather or sea conditions make the private boat crossing impossible, the operator uses the communal Gozo Channel Ferry instead, and ferry tickets are included in your package. The mini cruise around Comino is also weather-dependent. If it cannot run, no refund is given since it is offered as added value to the package.

Do I need a valid driving licence to ride the quad bike?

Yes, you must be 21 years of age or older and present an original valid driving licence. Provisional licences, expired licences, copies, or photos will not be accepted. You will sign an indemnity form and complete a quad bike inspection before the tour begins.
