ATV Riding Gozo: Self-Drive 4x4 Jeep Tour from Malta
You steer across Gozo's terrain, not watch it pass.
A self-drive ATV tour in Gozo puts you behind the wheel of a modern, fully automatic UTV for 7 hours, traveling in convoy through remote valleys, sandy dunes and coastal cliffs while a multilingual guide leads the route. Hotel pickup in Malta or Gozo, ferry crossing, a traditional Gozitan lunch, and a reserved boat return to Malta are included; the Ggantija temples and Inland Sea boat trip are optional add-ons. Drivers must be 21 or older with a valid license, and the tour runs as either a day or sunset version with slightly different routes.

The Experience
What makes this different from a guided tour is the control: you're operating the UTV yourself, not riding along. The vehicle seats one driver plus five passengers facing forward, so families and groups ride together. A multilingual guide leads the convoy through customized routes, handling navigation while you focus on the terrain—sandy dunes, rocky valleys, and access to remote bays that a regular vehicle can't reach. The modern, fully automatic setup means no manual transmission to manage; you concentrate on steering.
The day unfolds around the geography of Gozo. After hotel pickup in Malta or Gozo, you cross by ferry on a boat reserved exclusively for Yippee clients. Once on the island, the convoy explores places like Wied Il-Għasri, Ta' Cenc Cliffs, and Dwejra's Inland Sea—each stop chosen for what the UTV can access. You'll swim in one of Gozo's bays, then stop for a light traditional Gozitan lunch. The Ggantija temples, a UNESCO site older than the Egyptian pyramids, are optional and require a separate entrance fee. If you choose the Inland Sea boat trip, that's an add-on as well. Weather permitting, the return crossing includes a scenic sail past Comino's caves and the Blue Lagoon before transport takes you back to your original pickup point.
Sunset tours follow a slightly different route and don't include the Ggantija temples option since they close before evening. The whole experience, excluding transfer time to and from the ferry, runs about 7 hours. If weather prevents the boats from operating, the tour automatically switches to a full-day Tuk-Tuk tour in Gozo instead. Bring comfortable shoes, a camera, and a valid driver's license—provisional licenses aren't accepted, and you must be at least 21 to drive.

Is this one for you?Choose the day tour if you want the full range of Gozo's landscape—valleys, cliffs, bays and the option to visit the Ggantija temples. The sunset version follows a shorter route and skips the temples since they close in the evening, so pick it if you prefer an afternoon start and want to end with the sail back to Malta as light fades.

Can I take the wheel if I've never driven an ATV before?
Yes. The UTVs are fully automatic with no manual transmission, and a multilingual guide leads the convoy and handles navigation, so you focus on steering through the terrain. Children and passengers ride forward-facing in the same vehicle, making it suitable for families of mixed experience levels.
What's included in the price, and what costs extra?
Hotel pickup, ferry crossing, the UTV rental itself, a traditional Gozitan lunch, and the reserved boat return to Malta are all included. The Ggantija temples entrance fee and the optional Inland Sea boat trip are separate charges you can add at checkout.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my tour?
If weather prevents the boats from operating, your booking automatically switches to a full-day Tuk-Tuk tour in Gozo instead, so you still get a full experience on the island.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the ferry, or is that handled?
Pickup is included from your hotel in Malta or Gozo, and Yippee transport takes you to the ferry terminal. Ferry tickets are also included, and a reserved boat brings you back to your original pickup point at the end of the day.
What are Wied Il-Għasri and the Inland Sea, and do I visit both?
Wied Il-Għasri is a remote hidden bay accessible only by the terrain the UTV can cross. The Inland Sea at Dwejra is a seawater lagoon linked to the Mediterranean through a natural arch; you can add an optional boat trip there for an extra fee.
Can young children ride along, or is this adults only?
Children can ride as passengers in the forward-facing seats alongside the driver. Infants can use specialized infant seats (free but must be booked in advance as they take up a seat by law), and children must be accompanied by an adult.
