The experience

Semenggoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre sits at the heart of this tour. The center houses over 20 semi-wild orangutans that emerge from the surrounding rainforest for scheduled feedings in a natural outdoor setting. Your guide helps you spot them along the forest trail while rangers brief you on the center's conservation mission and rehabilitation efforts for these endangered primates.

After the orangutan encounter, a 45-minute drive through Sarawak countryside takes you to Annah Rais Longhouse, one of the region's oldest communities. You arrive to a welcome of tuak, the village's traditional rice wine, then explore the historic longhouse with your guide. The Bidayuh people built this structure entirely from bamboo and wood, and your visit covers their farming traditions, architecture and history as skilled craftspeople. Lunch is served on the longhouse patio: Ayam Pansuh (chicken slow-cooked inside bamboo) and fresh jungle vegetables.

The tour runs seven hours total and includes an air-conditioned vehicle, bottled water throughout, entrance fees to both sites and a guide who speaks English, Chinese, Malay or Bengali. Hotel pickup is part of the booking. The longhouse visit is wheelchair accessible, and the tour suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
