The experience

The tour starts at 9:30am with hotel pickup and heads first to Melawati Hill, a historic site with tombs, cannons, and a lighthouse overlooking Kuala Selangor. From there you move to Selangor Fruit Valley, a 646-hectare plantation where you sample a range of tropical fruits and learn about Malaysia's agricultural heritage. The route then takes you to the Blue Mosque in Shah Alam (the country's largest mosque and Southeast Asia's second largest), where the distinctive blue and silver dome and four corner minarets dominate the skyline.

A stop at the Chocolate Museum lets you explore displays about Malaysia's cocoa industry and taste local chocolates before lunch. The final major stop is Batu Caves, the limestone hill temple in Gombak where you climb the colorful steps past the towering golden Lord Murugan statue to reach the cave temple itself. The whole day runs eight hours and ends with hotel drop-off.
