Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Jurmala and Kemeri Nature Trail
- Visit Jūrmala Open Air Museum
- Walk along Jūrmala beach
- Climb Observation Tower in Dzintaru park
- Stroll Jomas street with shops and cafés
- Walk the 3 km Ķemeri Moorland footbridge
The experience
You leave Riga in a private air-conditioned minivan and arrive in Jurmala, Latvia's main beach resort, where the day splits between the shoreline and the wooden architecture that defines the town. The Jūrmala Open Air Museum sits at the center of the fisherman villages stop: you can board two authentic fishing boats, try rope-making in a workshop, and walk through the houses where fishermen lived at the turn of the 20th century. On summer Thursdays around noon, local fishermen demonstrate traditional fish-smoking and let visitors taste the result. The driver knows the local restaurants and will book a table for lunch if you ask. Food and drinks are your own cost.
The second half of the day moves inland to Kemeri National Park, where a 3 km raised boardwalk crosses a moss marsh that has never been touched by human activity. The footbridge winds through a maze of small elongated lakes, and the bog is counted among Latvia's most photogenic places. Before or after, depending on the day's flow, you walk the beach or climb the 38-meter Observation Tower in Dzintaru park for screened views of the nature reserve. Jomas street, the old central avenue lined with cafés and summer terraces, sits between these stops if time allows.
The driver speaks English and gives basic information about what you're seeing, answers questions and steers you to ticket offices, but does not narrate the day as a licensed guide would. If you want that level of detail at any of the sites, a professional guide can be booked in advance for an additional cost. Some attractions close on certain days during winter months. The driver will know and suggest alternatives to keep the eight hours full.

Top questions
What is the Jūrmala Open Air Museum like, and what can you actually do there?
The museum recreates daily life in the fisherman villages at the turn of the 20th century. You can climb onto two authentic fishing boats, try your hand at rope-making in a workshop, and walk through the original houses where fishermen lived. On summer Thursdays around noon, local fishermen hold fish-smoking demonstrations and invite visitors to taste the smoked fish.
How long is the boardwalk through Kemeri bog, and what will I see?
The raised footbridge is 3 km long and crosses a moss marsh that has never been disturbed by human activity. It winds through a maze of small elongated lakes, making the bog one of Latvia's most picturesque natural sites.
Does the driver arrange lunch, or do I need to find a restaurant myself?
The driver will book a table at a local restaurant if you ask and tell him in advance. You choose where to eat and pay for your own food and drinks. The booking is part of the service.
Is a licensed guide included, or do I need to hire one separately?
The tour includes an English-speaking driver who gives basic information and answers questions, but not a licensed guide. If you want professional interpretation at any of the sites, you can arrange a guide in advance for an additional cost. Let the operator know when you book.
What happens if one of the sites is closed on the day I visit?
Some attractions close on certain days during winter. The driver knows the schedule and will suggest alternative sites to fill the day if any are closed on your date.
