The Experience

Hands stuffed in my jacket pockets, I watched our guide, Emi, wave us across the Shibuya Crossing like she’d done it a thousand times—maybe she had. After that, Senso-ji Temple hit me with incense smoke and that low hum of people praying or just… being there. I touched one of those giant red lanterns for luck (I hope that’s allowed). We didn’t rush anywhere; Emi checked in often if we wanted to stop or see something random along the way.

I still think about that moment at Senso-ji—the smell of incense clinging to my scarf long after we left. Tokyo is big and fast but with someone like Emi guiding you, it feels less overwhelming somehow. There’s always another corner to turn or snack to try or word to mispronounce (guilty), so yeah—I’d do this private walking tour again without thinking twice.
