Build your own route through Kamakura's temples, shrines and coast.

A private guided tour of Kamakura where you choose the duration (4, 5, or 6 hours) and the guide shapes the stops to match what interests you most. Start at Kamakura Station and move through the Great Buddha, historic temples like Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Hasedera Temple, the shopping and food stalls of Komachi Street, and optionally Yuigahama Beach or Enoshima. The guide speaks English and uses a pre-tour questionnaire to build your itinerary before you meet.

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Kamakura's landmarks and culture

  • Meet guide at Kamakura Station
  • Visit important samurai shrine
  • Walk along Komachi Street and taste food
  • See the Great Buddha and enter inside
  • Visit temple with Eleven-Headed Kannon statue

The Experience

The core of this tour is choice. You pick the length that fits your day (a 4-hour morning, a 5-hour afternoon, or a full 6-hour route that reaches the coast), and the guide adjusts which stops and how long you linger at each one based on what you tell them matters to you. That questionnaire arrives before the tour, so the guide already knows whether you want to taste matcha desserts on Komachi Street, climb to views from Hasedera Temple, or spend time inside the Great Buddha itself.

The route moves by public transport and on foot, which means you travel the way locals do and see the neighborhoods between the famous sites. You'll stand in front of the Great Buddha, a bronze national treasure you can enter if you choose; walk the approach and stone steps of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, founded by a samurai shogun; and browse the cafés and craft shops along Komachi Street. If you book the 6-hour option, the guide can add Enoshima, a small island just offshore with its own shrine, observation tower, caves, and seafood restaurants.

Yuigahama Beach and Enoshima are reachable only on the longer tour. The 4-hour option stays in central Kamakura. Public transport fares and entry fees to individual sites are separate from the tour price, so factor those in when you book. The guide meets you at Kamakura Station and works within whatever physical pace suits you. The operator notes the tour is suitable for all fitness levels.

Top questions

Can children come?

6 to 12 years; under 6, free.

How does the guide know what I want to see if I haven't decided yet?

You fill out a pre-tour questionnaire before the day arrives, telling the guide what draws you: temples, food, history, views, shopping, or a mix. The guide uses that to build an itinerary that fits your interests and your chosen duration, so the route is already shaped to you when you meet at Kamakura Station.

What's the difference between the 4-hour, 5-hour, and 6-hour options?

The 4-hour tour covers central Kamakura: the Great Buddha, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Hasedera Temple, and Komachi Street. The 5-hour option gives more time at those sites or adds Yuigahama Beach. The 6-hour tour reaches Enoshima, the island offshore with its shrine, observation tower, and caves.

Do I need to buy tickets separately, or are they included?

Entry fees to individual sites (the Great Buddha, temples, and the Enoshima observation tower) are not included in the tour price and are paid on the day. Public transport fares are also separate. The guide's expertise and the customized itinerary are what you're booking.

What does Komachi Street actually have to offer?

Komachi Street is a lively shopping and eating strip in central Kamakura filled with cafés, local snack shops, and souvenir stores. The guide can arrange food tastings of traditional Japanese sweets, matcha desserts, and regional specialties while you browse for crafts and gifts.

Can I really go inside the Great Buddha, or just look at it from outside?

You can step inside the Great Buddha if you choose. It's a hollow bronze statue and the interior is accessible. The guide will explain its history and craftsmanship, and you decide whether to enter or admire it from outside.
