The experience

The guide walks with you the whole way, so you're not managing the horse alone. You start in the countryside, riding through the landscape at a pace suited to beginners and children, then head down to the beach where the horse enters the water and you ride out into it. That water ride is the centerpiece: most riders come for that moment.

After the beach, the tour moves inland to Fern Gully, Jamaica's number one rainforest, where you stop to take in the dense canopy and the landscape you've been riding through. The final stop is a viewpoint overlooking all of Ocho Rios, so you see the town from above before heading to lunch. You'll eat authentic Jamaican jerk food (either jerk chicken or rice and peas), and then have time to shop for souvenirs at a place the operator has chosen for safety and authenticity.

The whole experience runs about three and a half hours. A guide speaks English throughout, and pickup is included, so you don't arrange your own transport to the starting point.
