The experience

Green Grotto Caves sits on Jamaica's North Coast and stretches 1,525 metres into the limestone, with chambers, light holes and a subterranean lake called Grotto Lake at its centre. The cave is lined with stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations that have stayed in their original state. A wishing well sits inside, and bats nest overhead. Your guide leads a one-hour journey through the cave system, moving through the labyrinth at a pace that lets you take in the formations without rushing.

After the caves, the tour moves to Dunn's River Falls, where you climb the cascade itself rather than watch from a distance. The falls drop roughly 600 feet from the beach to the top, and you ascend in a human chain with experienced guides who know the route and the safe footing. Pools dot the climb, giving you places to stop for photos and to cool off. One section is nicknamed the "massage parlour" because the water pressure creates a soothing effect as it flows down. If climbing the full height doesn't appeal, you can exit at any point and rejoin the group at the top, or watch from the terrace while others make the ascent.
