The experience
You're picked up from your hotel, villa, Airbnb or cruise ship pier in the Ocho Rios area in an air-conditioned vehicle and driven through town into the hills of the White River Valley. The route passes the country's oldest hydroelectric plant, built in the 1930s, and small communities where you'll see the everyday architecture and street life of rural Jamaica. Once you arrive at Blue Hole, a river guide meets you to lead the hike through the rainforest.
The hike itself moves between natural pools formed by the river, each one a different shade of turquoise. You'll swim in several of them, explore small water caves carved into the limestone, and have the option to swing on ropes or jump from the waterfall. The brave can leap from 40 feet into water deep enough to land safely. There's also a 20-foot waterfall to reach on foot. The limestone clay found in the cave walls can be extracted and applied to your skin as a full-body mud bath and massage, a natural treatment the site offers.
After the water activities and a lunch break at a local restaurant, you head back to Ocho Rios. The return includes an optional stop at a local craft market or souvenir shop before drop-off at your original pickup point. The whole outing runs about four hours from start to finish.

Either way, the guide and transport are included, so you only need to show up ready to swim and hike.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 12 years). Children under 3 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the water like at Blue Hole?
Blue Hole's pools are formed by the White River and stay cool and turquoise year-round. The water is deep enough for the 40-foot waterfall jump and clear enough to see the limestone formations and cave openings as you swim between pools.
Can I really jump from the waterfall, or is it just for watching?
Visitors and local cliff divers both jump from the waterfall into the 40-foot-deep water. You're welcome to try it if you're comfortable with heights, but rope swings and the smaller pools are available if you'd rather not jump.
What does the mud bath involve?
The limestone clay is extracted from the cave walls at Blue Hole and applied directly to your skin as a full-body treatment. It dries on your body and is then rinsed off in the pools: a natural exfoliant and massage combined.
How much walking is involved in this activity?
You hike through the rainforest between the natural pools and to reach the 20-foot waterfall, but the terrain is manageable and the guide sets the pace. Moderate fitness is recommended, and the activity is not suitable for pregnant travelers.
Do I need special shoes for the water?
Water shoes are not included but are sold at Blue Hole for approximately $10–20 USD if you want extra grip on the rocks and cave floors.
Is lunch included in the price?
Lunch is not included. You'll eat at a local restaurant during the break, and you can choose what to order there.
