The experience

Blue Hole sits in the hills above Ocho Rios as an off-the-beaten-path spot where you can cliff jump, swing on ropes, and swim in turquoise water surrounded by cascading falls. The guides meet you at your hotel and drive you there in an air-conditioned vehicle, so you arrive ready to move. The water is the main event. You choose how deep you go, from wading to jumping off the rocks, and the rope swings let you drop into pools without the climb back up.

Dunn's River Falls is the second half of the day and works differently. Instead of jumping, you climb: a series of terraced cascades that flow directly into the Caribbean Sea, which is rare for a waterfall. The guides form a human chain to help you up each level, so the climb becomes a group effort rather than a solo scramble. The whole structure is maybe 600 feet from bottom to top, and you move at the pace of the slowest person in your chain, which keeps it manageable even if you are not a climber.

The day runs 6 to 10 hours depending on how long you spend at each site and whether you take the lunch stop. Your driver waits and brings you back to your hotel when you are done. Pickup is from hotels in Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay, Falmouth, Montego Bay or the Grand Palladium resort. Choose the one closest to where you are staying at checkout.

What happens if I am not a strong swimmer or climber?

At Dunn's River Falls, the guides form a human chain to support you on the climb, and you move as a group, so you are not alone on the rocks. The activity does require at least moderate fitness and is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.

Is lunch included, or do I need to bring food?

Lunch is available as an optional stop during the day and can be purchased separately. You can also bring your own food or eat at nearby shops during the shopping time built into the schedule.

How long does the whole day take, and when do I get back to my hotel?

The activity runs 6 to 10 hours from pickup to drop-off, depending on how long you spend swimming and climbing and whether you take the lunch break. Your driver brings you back to your hotel when you are finished, so there is no separate return arrangement to make.
