The experience

The tour starts with pickup from your accommodation and a drive to a modern winery in Montecarlo, where you taste four different wines. After the tasting, you have free time to walk through Montecarlo itself: a medieval town perched on a lone hill 163 metres high, ringed by its original walls and surrounded by vineyards. The town holds the Touring Club's Orange Flag, a mark of high-quality heritage tourism.

The minivan then takes you to a different part of the Lucca countryside to a working farmhouse whose cellars and rooms remain as they were in the 1600s. Here you learn about the property's history and products while tasting local cured meats and cheeses, bruschetta, a typical Lucchese pasta course, the farm's own olive oil with bread, and five of their wines: three red and one white. This is lunch. Wine is included with it. The silence and the scent of the hills are part of the setting, though the experience itself is the food, the wine and the story of the place.

You travel in an air-conditioned minivan with a private driver for the full five hours. WiFi is available on board. The driver handles all transfers between stops, so you move between the winery, the town and the farmhouse without navigating or parking yourself. At the end, the minivan returns you to your accommodation.
