Sicilian Cooking Class: Learn Recipes from Chef Overlooking Park
Cook a Sicilian lunch or dinner, then take the recipes home
A three-hour cooking class in Syracuse where you learn to make typical Sicilian dishes (busiate with Trapanese pesto, bruschetta, cannoli and pizza) with a local chef in an apartment overlooking the archaeological park. The chef adapts the menu to your dietary needs and walks you through every step so you can reproduce the recipes at home. Wine, water and coffee are included.
The experience
The class starts in the chef's apartment in central Syracuse, positioned to look out over the archaeological park. After you arrive, you'll decide the menu together: busiate with Trapanese pesto, bruschetta or parmigiana, cannoli or tiramisu or almond biscuits, and Sicilian pizza are on the table. The chef explains the origins and evolution of each dish, then shows you how to make them. Sicilian cuisine works for vegans, vegetarians, those who eat fish, those avoiding gluten and those who want meat, so the menu shifts to what you eat.
You'll cook alongside the chef for the full three hours, learning the techniques that make these recipes work. The focus is on simplicity: how straightforward it is to build these dishes once you know the method. Red or white wine, still and sparkling water, and coffee or tea come with the class, so you eat and drink what you've made without stepping out.
The chef is a trained cook from a family of cooks and runs events of all kinds. He speaks English, Spanish and Italian, and the class suits anyone twelve and older. Public transportation stops nearby if you're traveling without a car.
