The experience
Podere degli Olmi is the only original Leopoldina house in the Valdichiana that opens to private visitors: access exists only through this experience. The tour begins with context about the era when the house was built and the reclamation of the valley, then moves into the main rooms and the ancient stables where your guide explains how life unfolded in these spaces centuries ago. Your guide is a descendant of the noble family to whom the estate has always belonged, so the stories come from someone whose family lived them.
The second half shifts to the Secret Garden, where you taste local wines and food products that change with the season. The guide walks you through the history and cultivation of what you're tasting, connecting each item to the territory itself. If weather permits, the tasting happens outside. Otherwise, you move into one of the house's rooms. Dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, celiac, allergies) are accommodated when you note them at booking.
The whole arc is built around rural history: anecdotes, proverbs, songs and poems of life in the valley emerge as you move through the spaces. Your guide shares family history only if you ask, leaving the focus on the Valdichiana itself and the choices that shaped it.
