The experience

The tour begins at Jaffa Gate, where your guide explains the gate's role in Jerusalem's history before moving into the Old City itself. From there you walk through the Armenian Quarter to Christ Church, an Anglican congregation where you stop for tea or coffee and see the museum's model of the Temple Mount and the Herodian city. You also visit the Armenian Church of St Jacques, then cross into the Jewish Quarter to reach the Western Wall. The guide helps you understand why this site holds such weight for Jews worldwide, and you have time to slip a note into the wall's crevices if you wish.

The route then crosses the Muslim Quarter to the Via Dolorosa, the path Jesus walked to Calvary, where you see the Cotton market and the stations along the way. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre comes next, the most sacred site in Christianity, before the tour winds through the Greek Orthodox quarter's shopping streets and souk, returning to Jaffa Gate. Coffee breaks and stories about the mythical places and people tied to each stop are woven through the morning.

A professional guide in your chosen language (English, Italian or French) leads the whole walk. The pace is set for all fitness levels, and the route is wheelchair accessible, so families with strollers or anyone with mobility considerations can join. The tour is private, meaning it's just you and your group with the guide: no mixing with other visitors.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want a guide who can answer questions and tell you why each place matters, rather than walking alone or in a large group. The private format means you move at your own pace and can spend extra time at any of the four districts or the major sites (the Western Wall, the Via Dolorosa or the Church of the Holy Sepulchre) without holding anyone back or being rushed.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, French and Italian.

How does a private tour differ from a group one in Jerusalem?

A private tour means your guide is yours alone for the morning. You set the pace, linger where you want, and ask questions without waiting for a larger group. The guide can adjust the route or timing to your interests within the same four districts and major stops.

What exactly is the Western Wall and why does the guide spend time there?

The Western Wall is the only surviving part of the Second Temple, the holiest site in Judaism. Your guide explains its significance to Jewish identity and practice worldwide, and you have time to approach the wall and leave a written prayer in its crevices if you wish.

Is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre included in the tour, or do I pay extra?

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is included in the tour route. Your guide takes you through this central Christian site. Entry to the church itself is included. No separate ticket is required.

What happens at Christ Church in the Armenian Quarter?

Christ Church is an Anglican congregation where you stop for tea or coffee as a break during the walk. The church also houses a museum displaying a detailed model of the Temple Mount and the Herodian city of Jerusalem, which your guide can help you understand in context.

Can I do this tour if I'm not very fit or I'm traveling with young children?

The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels and is wheelchair accessible. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and the 3- to 4-hour duration is broken up with stops and a coffee break, so families with young kids manage it well.
