The Experience
The day starts with a panoramic view from Mount Scopus before you descend into the Old City itself. From there the route moves through the Garden of Gethsemane and down into the Kidron Valley, giving you the geography of the landscape before you enter the quarters. You'll see the Dome of the Rock from the Temple Mount viewpoint, then walk through the Jewish Quarter to reach the Western Wall—one of the most sacred sites in Judaism and the place where you'll have time to stand and observe.
After the Western Wall, the tour takes you through the Christian Quarter and along the Via Dolorosa, the path Jesus walked to his crucifixion, stopping at several of the Stations of the Cross. The route ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built on the site believed to be where Jesus was crucified and buried. Your guide will walk you through the layout and history of each space; the professional guide is included in your chosen language (English, Spanish, German or French). All entrance fees to the sites are covered, and an air-conditioned vehicle brings you from your hotel at the start.
The tour wraps up around 1 p.m. in the Old City, which means you're not spending time traveling back to your hotel—you can stay in the Old City to eat, shop or rest, or head out on your own. Wear comfortable walking shoes; there's a reasonable amount of walking across uneven ground and stairs.
