From there, the drive takes you to Mount Nebo, a hilltop sanctuary overlooking the Jordan River's west bank, then to the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Madaba to see the ancient mosaic map of Jerusalem laid into the floor. By evening you arrive at a Bedouin camp near Petra, where you'll sleep and eat dinner.

Day two is Petra itself. You walk through the Siq—a narrow canyon carved into rose-red sandstone—and emerge into the Treasury, the iconic carved facade that rises from the rock face. The city was built by the Nabataeans around 2,000 years ago and abandoned for centuries before rediscovery. Breakfast and the full day's exploration are included; the guide leads you through the main sites and explains the history as you move through the ancient streets and tombs. By late afternoon you head back across the border, arriving in Jerusalem around 21:00.
