Jomblang & Pindul Cave Tubing: Rappel & River Adventure
Rappel into light, then float through darkness underground
A 10-hour private cave adventure in Yogyakarta combining rappelling at Jomblang Cave with river tubing at Pindul Cave, led by an English-speaking local guide. Transportation, cave equipment, lunch and all entrance fees are included; you descend 59 meters on rope into Jomblang's signature ray of light, walk through muddy passages, then float a tire tube down an underground river past the region's largest stalactite. Minimum age 12; not suitable for pregnant travelers or those with spinal injuries or serious heart conditions.
Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Jomblang and Pindul Caves
- Descend 59 meters into Jomblang Cave
- Walk 270 meters through muddy tunnel
- Witness heavenly light in Jomblang Cave
- Ride float tire for tubing in Pindul Cave
- View biggest stalactite stone in Pindul Cave
The Experience
Ten hours means both caves fit into one day without rushing. You start at Jomblang Cave, where rappelling equipment takes you down 59 meters to the cave floor. From there, you walk about 270 meters through a slippery muddy tunnel to reach the spot where a single ray of light breaks through the rock above—the moment the tour is built around. The passage is tight and wet; bring extra clothes and a towel because you will get muddy.
After Jomblang, you move to Pindul Cave for the river section. Here you float a tire tube down an underground river that flows through the cave, guided by someone who knows the water and the passages. The cave holds the region's largest stalactite, which grows about 2 millimeters every 25 years. The tubing is the part where "a lot of fun" happens—you are moving through darkness, following the current, with the guide steering the group through the cave's turns.
Your driver speaks English and stays with you throughout. Lunch is included, as are all entrance fees (Jomblang 500,000 IDR, Pindul 200,000 IDR), rappelling gear at Jomblang, cave equipment at Pindul, and the air-conditioned vehicle that moves you between sites. The guide at each cave is local and knows the terrain. Tipping the driver and guide is optional.

How does the river tubing at Pindul Cave work?
You float down an underground river on a tire tube, guided by a local who knows the cave passages and the current; the river flows through the cave past stalactites and dark chambers, and the guide controls the pace and route.
