The experience

The day starts before dawn with hotel pickup in Labuan Bajo and a transfer to the jetty, where you board a speedboat for the run to Padar Island. A trek to the summit rewards you with panoramic views across the archipelago. From there the boat carries you to Pink Beach, where you enter the water with snorkeling gear to see the distinctive pink-hued sand and the marine life around it. The guide stays with the group throughout.

Komodo Island comes next: you land and walk with the guide into the dry scrub to encounter the Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. After that, the boat anchors at Taka Makassar, a sandbank surrounded by turquoise water where you can rest and snorkel, then moves on to Manta Point for a chance to swim near manta rays. Siaba Island, the final snorkeling stop, sits above vibrant coral reefs and turtle grounds. Lunch (a box with a choice of fish, chicken or vegetarian) arrives midday, along with snacks, fresh fruit, coffee or tea and bottled water. The boat returns to Labuan Bajo in the late afternoon, dropping you at your hotel or the airport.

The speedboat type depends on availability and which operator is running that day, so the vessel may vary. The tour runs roughly 10 to 11 hours door to door. An air-conditioned vehicle handles the hotel transfer, and the boat carries a restroom on board. Insurance is included through Zurich.
