The experience
Eleven hours means you leave early and return late, but the route covers ground most day trips don't touch. The speedboat picks you up from your hotel in Labuan Bajo and heads first to Padar Island, where a hike to the top opens a 360-degree view across the ocean and the three colored beaches below. From there the boat crosses the marine park to Komodo Island itself, where a ranger leads you into the hills to find Komodo dragons in their own habitat: the largest living lizard species, growing up to three meters long.
The snorkeling happens at four separate sites. Pink Beach gets its color from microscopic shells and coral fragments mixed into the sand. You swim and relax here before moving to Manta Point, where rays come to be cleaned by small fish and snorkeling puts you close to them. Taka Makassar is a small sand islet surrounded by clear water and coral, and Kanawa Island rounds out the day with white sand beaches and more reef time. Snorkeling equipment, bottled water and snacks come with the tour.
The boat is the same one for all six stops, so you stay with the same group and guide throughout. A live English-speaking guide is included. The only thing to arrange separately is the Komodo National Park entrance fee, which is not part of the booking.
