The experience
The day starts before dawn with hotel pickup at 5:30am and a one-hour speedboat crossing to Padar Island. You hike to the summit to see the landscape and coastline spread below, then boat to Komodo Island where a professional guide and local ranger lead you on a trek to spot Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. The pace is steady but not rushed: the guide sets the rhythm and explains what you're seeing.
After Komodo, you snorkel at Pink Beach, a white and pink sand beach where the water is shallow and calm. Lunch is provided here. The day then moves through three more snorkeling stops: Manta Point (where manta rays are sighted), Taka Makassar, and Kanawa Island, each with its own reef and marine life. At each site, your guide enters the water with you and points out what to look for. Snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, snorkel and life jacket) is supplied. You bring only your swimsuit and towel.
The boat returns to Labuan Bajo in late afternoon, and you're dropped at your hotel. The whole day runs about 11 and a half hours from pickup to drop-off. The speedboat is shared with other travelers, and the guide speaks English. Unlimited mineral water is provided throughout.
