Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Lempuyang Temple and Surroundings
- Visit Pura Lempuyang Luhur temple
- See dragon staircases at Penataran Agung
- Tour Tirta Gangga Water Palace
- Snorkel at Blue Lagoon and Tanjung Jepun
The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel and a drive to Mount Lempuyang, where Pura Lempuyang Luhur sits at 1,175 metres above sea level. The temple is one of Bali's oldest and most respected, believed to predate most Hindu temples on the island. If the full ascent to the peak is not for you, Pura Penataran Agung at the foot of the mountain offers the same spiritual weight with towering dragon staircases and views that work for photographs without the climb.
The route also takes in Tirta Gangga Water Palace, built in 1948 by the King of Karangasem and set in a blend of Balinese and Chinese architecture. The park holds small statues drawn from Hindu epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana, arranged across stone pathways. From there, the day ends with snorkeling at Blue Lagoon Beach in Padai Bai or Tanjung Jepun, where the reef sits in shallow water and the fish are close enough to see clearly.
Your guide speaks English throughout, and the vehicle is air-conditioned with parking covered. Bring a swimsuit and reef shoes if you plan to snorkel. The water is warm but the coral and sand are rough underfoot.
