The Experience

You arrive at Gili Trawangan and spend ten minutes checking in and testing your snorkeling gear with the guide. Then the boat takes you out to the biorock vespa and coral reef around the first island—a shallow, protected start where you can see schools of small fish and sometimes turtles, though they are less common here than at the next stop. The glass-bottom boat lets you spot what is below before you enter the water, so you know what to expect.

Gili Meno is where the turtles concentrate. The underwater statue sits in the coral garden, and the blue coral population here is rare enough that guides point it out. You will see both Hawksbill and Green sea turtles in different sizes moving through the reef. The snorkeling is slower and closer than the first island, which is what makes the difference.

Gili Air offers the most vibrant coral and the widest range of fish and marine life. After snorkeling, you have free time to rest or explore the island by cidomo or bicycle, then eat lunch at a beachside cafe or restaurant before the boat returns you to Gili Trawangan. The guide stays with the group throughout and handles safety and navigation; they are trained to manage unexpected situations and speak English.
