2-Day Open Water Diving Certification in Tulamben

The 2-day Open Water Course in Tulamben is an SSI certification class where you learn diving basics in the classroom, practice in shallow water, then complete four open-water dives to earn your certification. The course runs over two full days with a certified instructor guiding you through each step. Pickup and dropoff are included for the Amed and Tulamben area. The dive center provides all SCUBA equipment, facilities and access to an on-site restaurant.

The experience

The course breaks into three phases. First you develop your knowledge of diving fundamentals in a classroom setting. Then you move to shallow-water training (at least five sessions in the beach or pool), where you practice basic skills under direct supervision before you're ready for depth. Finally, you complete at least four dives in open water to practice your technique and explore the ocean floor. The whole sequence takes two days, with a certified instructor present throughout.

All SCUBA equipment is provided, so you arrive with nothing but a swimsuit and a willingness to learn. The dive center sits in Tulamben and includes facilities like WiFi, showers, lockers and a change room. A restaurant and warung are on-site if you want to eat between sessions (food costs are separate). Pickup and dropoff cover the Amed and Tulamben surroundings, so transport is handled. A live guide leads the course in English, Spanish or French depending on the group.

The minimum age is 10 years old. The course requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness. It's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. Once you finish, you hold an SSI International certification (the most widely recognized dive credential in the world), and can dive independently at depths up to 18 meters.
