The Experience

Our driver was waiting at the Udaipur station holding a sign with my name—always a relief after a long train ride. We checked into our hotel and later drifted out for a boat ride on Lake Pichola. The water caught the last bit of sunlight as we floated past Jag Mandir; I could hear temple bells in the distance mixing with the soft hum of evening prayers.

The next morning started early. Our guide led us through Udaipur’s City Palace, pointing out tiny mirror mosaics I’d have missed on my own. At Sahelion ki Bari, kids chased pigeons while older folks chatted under shady trees. By midday, we were driving to Chittorgarh—fields rolling by, dotted with women in bright saris working under the sun. The fort itself felt massive; climbing up to Vijay Stambh, I ran my hand along cool stone walls that have seen centuries pass.

Ajmer’s Dargah Sharif was busy but peaceful somehow—the scent of incense everywhere and people offering flowers at the shrine. In Pushkar, we wandered around the lake just before sunset; locals fed fish while priests chanted nearby. The Brahma Temple had a steady stream of visitors, each pausing for a moment before moving on.

Jaipur brought its own energy: pink buildings glowing in the afternoon heat and rickshaws weaving through traffic. Amber Fort’s mirrored Sheesh Mahal sparkled even in low light—our guide explained how candles once lit up every corner here. Dinner at Chokhi Dhani was lively, with folk dancers spinning so fast their anklets jingled louder than the music. By the time we left for Delhi, it felt like we’d lived a dozen stories in just one week.
