The Experience

First stop was Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. The smell of fresh chapatis from the community kitchen hit me before I even stepped inside. Our guide, Rajiv, explained how over 20,000 people eat here every day—no questions asked. We peeked into the kitchen where volunteers stirred giant pots and rolled dough at lightning speed. I’d never seen anything quite like it. The marble floors felt cool underfoot, and the hum of quiet prayers filled the air.

Next up: Jama Masjid. Shoes off, we padded across warm stone tiles as pigeons fluttered overhead. Rajiv pointed out the intricate calligraphy on the arches—details I’d have missed on my own. It’s hard to picture 25,000 people squeezed into this courtyard during Eid, but you can almost feel that energy echoing around you.
