The experience

Your driver picks you up from your hotel, airport or train station anytime between 8 AM and 10 AM, then heads into Old Delhi. You meet your guide at Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib and climb into a tuk-tuk to weave through Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest markets in the city. Your guide explains what these streets mean to locals as you pass the spice market at Khari Baoli and move through the crowds toward the Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque. Built in 1656 with the labor of over 5,000 workers, its red sandstone courtyard sits in front of the Red Fort.

The Red Fort itself, constructed between 1639 and 1648 by Shah Jahan, stretches behind a 2-kilometer-long wall combining Indo-Islamic and Mughal architecture. From there the tour moves into New Delhi's wider avenues. You pass the Parliament House and the Presidential Palace, stop at India Gate (a 42-meter archway built in 1931 to commemorate Indian soldiers from World War I), and visit Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Then comes your choice: Humayun's Tomb, India's first garden tomb and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or Akshardham Temple, a grand Hindu temple completed in 2005 whose intricate stonework looks centuries old. The tour ends at Qutub Minar, a UNESCO complex in Mehrauli built in 1192, which also includes the Iron Pillar of Delhi and the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. If the Lotus Temple is open that day, it may be included as well.

All entrance fees are covered, parking and tolls are paid, and you get bottled water throughout the day. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language depending on availability. Drop-off happens at any location in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad or Faridabad.
