The experience

You get picked up from your hotel or any location in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad or Faridabad between 8 AM and 10 AM in a private air-conditioned car with a driver and a live guide. The tour moves through Old Delhi first, passing the Red Fort (a 2-kilometer-walled fortress built by Shah Jahan between 1639 and 1648 that served as the main residence for Mughal emperors), and then to Jama Masjid, one of Asia's largest mosques, also built by Shah Jahan. You stop at Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, one of the nine major Sikh shrines in Delhi, built after Guru Teg Bahadur.

The route then takes you through Khari Baoli, the oldest spice market in Chandni Chowk, where the guide explains the uses and properties of Indian spices. A tuk-tuk ride through the narrow bazaar streets of Old Delhi follows, letting you move through the area the way locals do. You visit a Jain temple with a charitable bird hospital and learn about Jainism, then move to Swaminarayan Akshardham, one of the largest Hindu temples, built in 2005 with an idol surrounded by precious and semi-precious stones. Lunch happens at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, a Sikh shrine originally built as a bungalow in the 1780s, where you can eat at the multi-cuisine restaurant. The gurdwara offers free food (langar) around the clock. The tour ends at Lotus Temple, a white marble structure known as the 21st century Taj Mahal, which follows the Baha'i faith.

All entry tickets, parking, tolls and fuel are included. The car adjusts to your group size: a four-seater sedan for one to two people, a six-seater wagon for three to five, a nine-seater van for six to nine, or a twelve-seater van for ten to twelve travelers. You'll need to remove your shoes before entering temples and wear covered clothing. Bring comfortable walking shoes and carry valid photo ID for monument entry. If Akshardham or Lotus Temple are closed on the day you book (they close Mondays), the guide takes you to Iskcon Temple and Shri KalkaJi Temple instead. The tour is wheelchair accessible, and specialized infant seats are available if you're traveling with small children.
