Jaipur guided tour: Amber Fort, City Palace & Hawa Mahal
Jantar Mantar holds the world's largest stone sundial, built in 1734 by the founder of Jaipur.
This eight-hour guided tour of Jaipur covers four major landmarks — Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar — with a local guide in English, Spanish, Italian or French, round-trip hotel pickup, and lunch included. The tour moves through sites built between 1727 and 1799 by the Rajput rulers who shaped the city, so you hear the history of each palace and fort as you stand in front of it. Amber Fort sits 11 kilometres outside the city on a hilltop; the other three landmarks cluster in central Jaipur. Bottled water and air-conditioned transport are included; monument entry fees are separate.

The Experience
Amber Fort opens the day — a hilltop fort 11 kilometres from the city where you walk the palace rooms and courtyards built into the ridge. The guide explains the Rajput architecture and the history of the rulers who lived there, so the layout and the carved stone make sense as you move through. From there the tour moves to Jal Mahal, a palace in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, where you see it from the shore — the 18th-century renovation by Maharaja Jai Singh II is visible in the proportions and the stonework.
Back in central Jaipur, you stop at City Palace, still partly a royal residence, built in 1727 when Jai Singh II moved his court from Amber to the newly founded city. The palace mixes Rajasthani and Mughal design, and the guide points out how that blend shaped the whole city plan. Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage site a short walk away, is a collection of nineteen stone astronomical instruments completed in 1734 — the largest is a sundial so precise that it still marks time to within two seconds. Hawa Mahal, the five-storey pink sandstone structure built in 1799, comes last; it was designed as a screened viewing gallery for the royal women's chambers, and from the street you see the 953 small windows that give it its name.
Lunch is included partway through the day. The tour runs eight hours total with round-trip pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, and the guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French depending on the option you choose at checkout. Bottled water is provided throughout.
