The experience

You pick the start time between 8 AM and noon, and the driver collects you from your hotel or airport anywhere in the Delhi area. The route itself is yours to shape: a half-day focuses on Old Delhi (Jama Masjid with its red sandstone courtyard built in 1656, the bazaars of Chandni Chowk, and the spice market at Khari Baoli), while a full day adds the newer monuments of South Delhi. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or one of four other languages and travels with you the whole way.

In Old Delhi, you'll ride a tuk-tuk through the markets with your guide explaining how they serve the local economy, then walk through the spice market where the guide shares how different spices are used. You pass the Red Fort from outside (70% is held by the Indian Army, so exterior viewing and photos are the option), then drive past India Gate and Parliament House while your guide gives the history. If you choose the full day, you visit Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first garden tomb in India, Qutub Minar in the Mehrauli area, and the Lotus Temple, a Bahá'í House of Worship shaped like a flower and consecrated in 1986. Raj Ghat, a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, is optional.

Street food sampling in Old Delhi and monument entrance tickets are add-ons you select at booking, neither is automatic. The car is air-conditioned with a dressed driver, and you get mineral water bottles throughout. At the end of the day, you get a complimentary drop-off anywhere in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad or Faridabad.
