The Experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel or airport, then moves through Chennai's layered history. You'll see the Kapaleeshwarar Temple in Mylapore, a Hindu temple built in Dravidian style with an ornate gopuram and carved sculptures, followed by a stop in the traditional Agraharam settlement for authentic South Indian coffee. The route then takes in Santhome Basilica, a neo-Gothic church built over St. Thomas the Apostle's tomb, and passes through the Pattinampakkam Fish Market near Marina Loop Road, a modern seafood hub with over 360 stalls.
The second half covers the city's colonial core and public landmarks. Marina Beach, Chennai's 12-kilometre shoreline, offers views and street food stops. The Government Museum in Egmore holds Chola bronzes, ancient coins and Amaravati sculptures, India's second-oldest museum. You'll also see the Madras High Court (built in 1892 in Indo-Saracenic red brick), the Ripon Building (a 1913 neoclassical structure now the Greater Chennai Corporation headquarters), the Armenian Church (built in 1712 with a distinctive bell tower), and Fort St. George, where the British East India Company established itself in 1644 and where St. Mary's Church stands as Asia's oldest Anglican church. A stop at the Victory War Memorial near Marina Beach rounds out the tour before return to your hotel.
The vehicle is air-conditioned and the guide speaks English throughout. Entrance fees to attractions are included, as is bottled water. The tour is built for mixed fitness levels and welcomes children from age one, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or during pregnancy.

Lunch is not included in the tour. You'll have stops at the Agraharam for coffee and can explore street food near Marina Beach, but a full meal is not part of the package.
What is Fort St. George, and why is it important to Chennai's history?
Fort St. George was built in 1644 by the British East India Company and marks the birth of modern Chennai. It houses St. Mary's Church, Asia's oldest Anglican church, and a museum with colonial artifacts including rare coins, weapons and the first Indian national flag. The fort also hosts the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly.
Is pickup from the airport included, or only from hotels?
Pickup is included from either your hotel or Chennai airport, so you can choose whichever applies to your arrival.
How early would we need to start if we wanted to visit the Royapuram Fishing Harbour?
Royapuram Fishing Harbour in North Chennai is best visited between 2 and 4 AM to see the bustling seafood market and traditional boat-building at their peak. The standard itinerary does not list this stop, so you would need to confirm with the operator if an early start or modified route is possible.
