The experience

Three hours gets you through the full arc: arriving at a Bengali home, cooking alongside the family, and sitting down to eat together. You're not watching a demonstration. You're in the kitchen doing the work, learning how to prepare begun bhaja (fried aubergine), sona muger dal (yellow lentils with bottle gourd), macher jhol (a classic fish curry made with freshwater fish), and chicken malaikari, along with steamed basmati rice, chutney and sandesh, a Bengali sweetmeat made from chenna. The menu shifts with the season and what the family is cooking that day.

The cooking happens in the family's own kitchen, not a commercial space. You'll hear the stories behind the food (why certain spices matter, how the dishes connect to Bengali culture and daily life) as you work. The experience centers on that exchange: the techniques and the talk are inseparable. By the time you move to the table, you know what you made and why it tastes the way it does.

Lunch is included. If you want a guide to join you, that can be arranged for an additional charge. Public transportation options are nearby, and all areas of the home are wheelchair accessible.
