Step-by-step itinerary

Roatan East End and Pigeon Cays tour

  • Start from Jonesville Point
  • Travel across turquoise waters
  • Explore Pigeon Key island
  • Snorkel coral reefs
  • Relax on the beach
  • Enjoy local lunch

The experience

The tour leaves Jonesville Point and heads across the water to Pigeon Cays, where the coral reefs sit in shallow, clear water. You'll use snorkeling equipment provided on the boat (mask, fins and snorkel) to move through the reef and watch the fish and coral formations at your own pace. The guide stays with the group and points out what to look for, speaking English or Spanish depending on the booking. The water is warm and the reefs are close to shore, so most of the snorkeling happens in a small area rather than a long swim.

After an hour or two in the water, the boat brings you back to Pigeon Cays beach, where you'll have time to rest, dry off and eat a local lunch. The island itself is quiet and tree-lined, a place to sit in the shade or walk along the sand between the water and the vegetation. Soda, water and alcoholic beverages are included throughout the day, so you're not paying extra for drinks on the island or the boat.

The whole outing runs six to seven hours from start to finish. Hotel pickup is included, so you don't arrange your own transport to Jonesville Point. The operator handles that part. The tour suits all fitness levels and infants can come along if they sit on an adult's lap during the boat ride.
