The experience
How do you fit two mountain parks and a dozen photo stops into a morning from Antigua? The tour starts with a 4x4 ride up to Hoobitenango, 12 km away, where a medieval-themed park built around Lord of the Rings imagery spreads across the hillside. Hobbit houses, walking trails and volcano views anchor the first stop, but the real draw is the attractions: El Grito, a giant swing that hangs over the valley; giant hands you can climb into; an Aerobike for pedaling above the landscape; and a selfie museum designed entirely around framing shots. Your bracelet unlocks all of them, and the bilingual guide navigates the park while you move between photo moments.
Altamira sits higher still, a natural park engineered for viewpoints. Nine separate spots dot the hillside, each one a different frame of the Antigua Valley and the three volcanoes that ring it: Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. The Golden Hand is the most famous: a giant sculpture you stand inside to photograph the valley through its fingers. Jeffry, another oversized guardian figure, anchors another viewpoint. An airplane and a giant named Exupery give the park its quirky character. The guide points you toward the best angles and timing, and the morning light holds until the 4x4 brings you back down to Antigua.
