The experience

Vathy, Ithaca's capital, is where the day begins after the ferry crossing from Sami port in Kefalonia. You'll have time to walk the town's narrow streets, browse hand-made lace from local artisans, or step into the archaeological and folklore museums that hold the island's past. From there, the route climbs to the Monastery of Panagia Katharon, perched at 600 meters on Mt. Neritos, where the views open across the southern half of the island.

The tour then moves through Anoghi to see the church of Panagia, a structure rebuilt in the 17th century but believed to reach back to the 12th, its interior lined with preserved Byzantine frescoes. Stavros, the largest town in the north, holds an archaeological museum with finds from the Mycenean and Corinthian periods, and a statue of Ulysses in the main square. The route ends in Kioni, a traditional village built in tiers around a sheltered cove, where you have free time to explore shops and cafes before the return ferry departs from Pisaetos port.

Private transportation means the vehicle and driver are yours alone for the day. Ferry tickets to and from Ithaca are included, as is the air-conditioned vehicle. A guide can be arranged if you contact the operator in advance. Without one, you move through the stops at your own pace.
