The Experience

We were already out of Athens before I’d really woken up — the van humming along while our guide, Yannis, pointed out olive groves and the first blue smudge of mountains. Delphi itself felt quieter than I expected. There were other visitors, sure, but somehow it still felt like you could hear your own footsteps on the gravel paths. I guess what stuck with me most wasn’t any single monument or fact (though there are plenty), but these little moments: sunlight on marble steps, Yannis teasing us for walking too slow uphill, that first bite of feta so fresh it squeaked between my teeth.
