The experience
The tour departs from your Athens hotel, Airbnb or Piraeus port in an air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver. On the drive through Central Greece, you pass the plain of Beotia and the city of Theva (birthplace of King Oedipus in classical mythology) before arriving at Delphi. The guide walks you through the archaeological site without waiting in line, stopping at the Temple of Apollo (famous for its oracle), the Treasury of the Athenians, the Athenian Stoa, the monument of Platea, the Polygonal Wall, and the monument of the Argive Kings. Each stop carries the stories behind the stones: why pilgrims traveled here, what the oracle meant to ancient Greece, how Delphi earned its reputation as the Center of the World.
The Delphi Archaeological Museum comes next, where the guide points out the bronze Charioteer (cast in 476 B.C. to commemorate a victory in the Pythian Games) alongside the Naxian Sphinx, the frieze of the Treasury of the Sifnians, and the metopes of the Athenian Treasury. You have time to linger with the artifacts and read the details at your own pace. The Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia, one of Delphi's most photographed sites, sits on the route as well. Dedicated to Athena the protector, it served as the sacred entrance for pilgrims arriving from across the ancient Greek world.
After the guided portion ends, you're transferred to the modern village of Delphi for lunch on your own and free time to walk the alleys and shops. On the return journey to Athens, the tour makes a small stop in Arachova village. The full day runs about ten hours from pickup to drop-off.

What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between the archaeological site and the museum at Delphi?
The archaeological site is the outdoor ruins: the Temple of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians, the ancient theater and other monuments spread across the hillside where pilgrims once gathered. The Delphi Archaeological Museum, a separate building, houses sculptures, friezes and artifacts found during excavations, including the famous bronze Charioteer and the Naxian Sphinx.
Can I skip the line at the Delphi archaeological site on this tour?
Yes. The tour includes skip-the-line access to the archaeological site, so you walk past the entrance queue and go straight in with your guide.
How much walking is involved in this tour?
You'll walk through the archaeological site, which sits on a hillside with uneven terrain and steps between monuments. The operator notes that travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The museum visit and village stroll are less demanding.
What's included in the price, and what do I pay for separately?
The tour includes pickup and drop-off from your Athens hotel, Airbnb or Piraeus port; the licensed guide; entrance fees to the archaeological site and museum; the air-conditioned vehicle; and all taxes. Lunch in the village of Delphi is your own expense, as are drinks and any personal purchases.
What time does the tour start and end?
The tour runs about ten hours total from pickup at your accommodation to drop-off back in Athens. Specific departure times depend on your hotel location. Confirm the exact pickup time when you book.
