The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your Athens hotel or cruise port, then heads south toward the Peloponnese. The first stop is the Corinth Canal, a quick loop to see one of modern Greece's most important engineering projects and a crucial Mediterranean trade route. From there the route opens into the Bronze Age: Mycenae, the palace of King Agamemnon and the richest palatial center of the Late Bronze Age, where the Lions Gate and citadel still stand. The guide carries an information booklet for each site, and you decide whether to add entrance fees and a licensed escort inside the archaeological zones.

By midday you're in Nafplio, the Venetian old town on the Argolis coast, where you walk the port and explore the narrow streets before heading up to the Palamadi Fortress. The 999 steps down from the fortress bring you to the taverna where lunch happens — real Greek food, not the tourist version, with local wine and dessert included. This is the centerpiece of the tour: a meal away from the main squares, the kind a local would eat.

The afternoon takes you to the Theatre of Epidaurus, built in 330–320 BC and still the finest preserved example of classical Greek theatre.
