The Experience

The day starts where you are—your hotel or the airport—and the guide handles the route from there. You'll begin at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, one of Europe's largest Orthodox cathedrals, then move through Metekhi Church and the monument to Vakhtang Gorgasali. The cable car ride up to Narikala Fortress gives you a panoramic view of the old city and the statue of Mother of Georgia standing above it.

From the fortress, you walk down into the district of sulfur bath houses, passing the mosque and entering the Sharden area—a tangle of narrow streets lined with cafés, wine bars and souvenir shops. You'll see Anchiskhati Basilica, a 6th-century church where a 4th-century cross of St. Nino is preserved, and the clock tower of the Rezo Gabriadze Theatre. The route ends at the Chronicles of Georgia, a massive monument near Tbilisi Lake that locals call the Stonehenge of Georgia.

The tour runs between six and nine hours depending on which package you choose. All entry fees, the cable car ticket, and fuel are included; the guide speaks English and Russian.
