The experience
You meet your guide and driver at Rose Revolution Square near the Big Bicycle monument, then move through old and new Tbilisi by car and on foot. The day opens at Holy Trinity Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in the South Caucasus region, before heading to Metekhi Church, which sits on a cliff overlooking the old city and the Mtkvari River and dates to the 13th century. From there you ride the aerial cable car up to Narikala Fortress, a 4th-century structure at the top, where you get views across the city before exploring the fortress itself.
After descending from Narikala, you walk through the Legvtakhevi area and the Bathhouse district, stopping at Meidan Square where there's time to browse for souvenirs. Then you take the funicular up Mtatsminda mountain to 729 meters above sea level and walk through Mtatsminda Park before the drive back to your accommodation. The tour lasts seven hours total and operates in all weather, so bring layers or rain gear depending on the season.
Groups stay under 15 people, and a professional English-speaking guide handles both narration and driving. Bottled water comes with you throughout the day. Children must have an adult with them, and infant seats are available if you're traveling with very young children. The tour runs once at least two people have booked it.
